Hailing from South London, Hussein Boon is a guitarist who draws from a wide palette of influences. Whether it’s Wes Montgomery; Gil Evans era Miles Davis to the contemporary sounds and production techniques of Massive Attack, Air and Fragile State. With his debut release, ‘Life Changes’, he has produced an album that is both expansive and warm and gives the listener a rewarding listening experience.

Born of mixed heritage (Somali/British), Hussein began playing guitar in his late teens. A key moment in his development was on meeting a young Canadian guitarist, Peter Buck, who influenced Hussein early on to take up guitar. After playing for a few years Hussein attended one of the first Jazz and Popular Music Courses in the country at Goldsmiths College, University of London.

On graduation Hussein began to play professionally for a wide range of artists including:

  • Norman Cook - Beats International and FreakPower (contributing one song to their debut album 'Drive Thru' Booty')
  • De La Soul - remixing their song Stakes Is High for Tommy Boy Records. The remix has achieved cult status in Hip Hop circles
  • Ephraim Lewis - playing guitar on his debut album Skin
  • Elisha La'Verne - produced, played and co-wrote song for her debut album Her Name Is... (Avex) as well as being her MD for a number of years.
  • Karen Ramirez - playing guitar on tour to support of her debut album Distant Dreams (Mercury)

Alongside his performing and recording career, Hussein also worked for the Princes' Trust as a guitar tutor and Musical Director for their special events. Highlights include:

  • Two Nations Concert - Johannesberg, South Africa. A special event attended by H.R.H Prince of Wales, Prince Harry and Thabo mBeki. Artists included the Spice Girls, Jonathan Butler, Omar and Soweto Strings.
  • Two Nations Concert - London, UK. A special event at Trafalgar Square attended by Nelson Mandela and Tony Blair. Artists included Billy Ocean, REM, the Corrs, Baaba Maal and Beverley Knight. After the concert Hussein met Nelson Mandela.
  • Princes' Trust Urban Music Festival - London, UK. A special event attended by H.R.H Prince of Wales, Jay-Z, Rev Run (Run DMC) and Russell Simmons. Artists included Jay-Z, Beyonce and Jamelia.
