"'Man over machine', not 'machine over man'", states the liner notes of Doctor Echo's first presentation "Cure for the Dubless". Aptly put, the Doctor takes a myriad of live musicians and established bands, and instead of sterilizing them and dissecting them on the PC, he lovingly applies his surgical techniques face to face with his patients. In other words, Doctor Echo has focused on using technology as an instrument, incorporating the effects and audio pleasures associated with dub style reggae in live settings since 1992. Also known as Justin DeHart, Doctor Echo has been a drummer and collaborator with several bands, including the Sacramento, California rock-steady group the "Steady Ups" as well as the "Defendants". This origination as a musician has lent his music a very organic feel, which shines immediately in the grooves present on "Cure for the Dubless". Many of the tracks featured on "Cure for the Dubless" are dubalicious reworks of songs created in the aforementioned bands. I found this CD very catchy and yet very chill, a fine production worth the monetary contribution to an outstanding independent artist. Look for more fine recordings coming from Doctor Echo's "SoundLab Studios", including his latest haunting offering, the self-titled "Doctor Echo". ~Tha Boss Docta Doctor Echo - WebSite
